A precision platformer cannot earn fans if it never opens. Steam Community threads for PizzaBoy already mention Microsoft Edge WebView2 prompts, nw_elf.dll load failures, and “already running” ghosts after a hung first boot. This troubleshooting page turns those public reports into an ordered checklist. Before you change anything

Microsoft Edge WebView2 runtime errors

Some Windows players—especially lean LTSC-style installs—report WebView2-related blockers even when they believe the runtime is installed. Practical steps:

1. Install or repair the official Microsoft Edge WebView2 Runtime from Microsoft’s evergreen bootstrapper.
2. Reboot after install.
3. Launch Steam as a normal user first; only try administrator mode if the runtime install itself failed.
4. If corporate policy blocks Edge components, use the itch.io HTML5/browser demo path temporarily while you sort the Steam dependency.

PizzaBoy discussions joke about being asked to install Edge. Treat the runtime as a dependency on some builds, not a browser requirement for gameplay itself.

Cannot load library nw_elf.dll

nw_elf.dll failures usually point at a broken Chromium/NW-style package, antivirus quarantine, or a partial download.

1. Steam → PizzaBoy demo → Properties → Installed Files → Verify integrity.
2. Add a temporary antivirus exclusion for the demo folder, verify again, then remove the exclusion if the game starts.
3. Disable overlay experiments (Discord overlay, exotic OSD tools) for one test launch.
4. If the file is missing after verify, uninstall the demo, delete leftover folder remnants, reinstall on the same library drive as other working games.

”Game already running” but nothing is open

1. Open Task Manager and end leftover PizzaBoy / nw / Electron-like processes.
2. Reboot if the process list is empty but Steam still thinks the title is running.
3. Clear Steam download cache only after a reboot fails.
4. Avoid force-killing Steam mid-first-launch; that pattern often creates the ghost state described in community posts.

Performance after a successful boot
